Which taxes are paid by a GmbH on the profit?
As a capital company, a GmbH in Germany is generally subject to three central income taxes: Corporation tax, solidarity surcharge and business tax.
- Corporate income tax: 15% on taxable profit.
- Solidarity surcharge: 5.5% on corporate income tax. Together with corporation tax, this results in a charge of 15.825%.

Frequently asked questions to the GmbH tax calculator
No It is a non-binding extrapolation based on the tax rates and lifting rates currently stored. The actual tax burden depends on other factors — such as special depreciation, additions and reductions in business tax, or existing loss carryforward.
The amount of business tax depends on the rate of the respective municipality. This is determined locally and can vary significantly depending on the location. With a lift rate of 380% to 490%, this results in an effective business tax of around 13.3% to 17.15%.
There is no general answer to that. Whether a GmbH is cheaper for tax purposes depends, among other things, on profit level, withdrawals, business tax rate, managing director salary and the question of whether profits remain with the company or are distributed. A blanket limit is therefore more of an orientation than a reliable statement.
For corporations such as limited liability companies or UGs, the costs for accounting, financial statements and tax obligations are generally higher. For this reason, the costs are usually higher than those for simpler forms of business. You can find out more about this here: Costs of a tax advisor for GmbH and UG.
A change can be useful if you are dissatisfied with the support, the costs are incomprehensible or important services are missing. It is crucial that you clearly define in advance what you expect from a good collaboration. You can find helpful tips on this here: Change tax advisor and important questions to ask a tax advisor.
